Hi everyone, Kirsty here - founder of Urban Market Concept and long-time believer that what goes around literally comes around (especially in fashion).
If 2025 taught us anything, it’s that style really is a cycle, not a straight line. Trends we once thought we’d buried with our flip phones and butterfly clips have strutted right back into the spotlight. Circular fashion has never been more relevant, and honestly, watching it all unfold feels like standing in a thrift store where past and future hang side by side on the same rack.
What Ruled in 2025
Last year was all about nostalgia with a conscience. The Y2K revival took center stage; low-rise jeans, baby tees, chunky highlights and enough shimmer to blind a disco ball. And while part of me cringed (because yes, I actually wore those trends the first time around), another part of me was thrilled. There’s something poetic about seeing Gen Z rediscover what we once took for granted and doing it sustainably this time.
Thrifted denim was the unofficial uniform of the year, and reworked pieces stole the show - skirts made from vintage jeans, upcycled patchwork jackets, handmade crochet everything. People were finally craving authenticity again, the kind that smells faintly of secondhand stores and feels alive with history.
And it wasn’t just clothes. Even digital cameras made a full comeback - grainy flash, time-stamped selfies, the click before instant gratification. Personally, I love it (mostly). There’s something refreshing about imperfect photos. But let me tell you, if my “BEST NIGHT EVAAAA” albums from 2009 ever saw the light of day, I’d simply cease to exist on the spot. Thankfully, those pixelated relics are buried in some hard drive purgatory, never to return.
What’s Dying (and Deservedly So) in 2026
The good news? The obsession with fast, disposable trends is finally fading. The “wear once and toss” mindset is starting to feel as outdated as those 2000s belt-over-t-shirt combos. People are over it.
2026 is shaping up to be the year of thoughtful consumption - fewer hauls and more meaning. We’re seeing shoppers lean toward craftsmanship, timeless silhouettes, and pieces that tell a story. Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword anymore; it’s becoming a baseline expectation.
What’s Coming Back to Life
What’s making a comeback isn’t new — it’s nostalgia done right. Think quality denim, handmade accessories, tailored jackets, and local markets buzzing with creativity. There’s a shift back to connection — between maker and buyer, between trend and memory.
At Urban Market Concept, we see it every weekend: people aren’t just shopping; they’re engaging. They’re meeting the person behind the stall, learning how something was made, and rediscovering what value really means.
And honestly, as a 36-year-old who remembers all these trends the first time around, it’s comforting. Circular fashion isn’t just eco-friendly — it’s emotional recycling. It’s a way of re-loving what once was, and passing it forward with flair.
So here’s to 2026 - the year we stop chasing trends and start spinning them back into stories.
